The Fayette Progress Council was founded by Joe Hardy and exists to assist in the planning of Fayette County projects and events while collaborating with existing businesses and nonprofit groups to strengthen resources in order to sustain the vitality of Fayette County.
The Fayette Progress Council is a recognized Pennsylvania 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The council will solicit federal, commonwealth and foundation funding when appropriate in order to aid in Fayette County's revitalization efforts.
The Fayette Progress Council is currently working to establish an endowment fund that will maintain earmarked public green spaces in Downtown Uniontown.
The council also assists with various other events in the downtown including a community planting day and currently purchases the flowers for planters along Main Street, a portion of Morgantown Street, Nemacolin Courtyard and Storey Square. Additionally, the council helps with the maintenance of the streetscape on Main Street and Morgantown Street.
On a county level, the council maintains the nine "Welcome to Fayette County" signs at the county’s borders that were initially paid for and developed by Hardy in 2004.
Over the past year, the council has partnered with the Community Foundation of Fayette County to assist with the establishment of the Fayette Community Growth Fund that eventually will provide planning and design grants to communities looking to revitalize.
